Frontend Specialization: Building Modern UIs with AI

Why a Frontend Framework?​

While you can build everything with plain ("vanilla") JavaScript, frameworks like React and Vue provide structure and tools that make building complex UIs much easier. They allow you to break your application into reusable components.

Component Architecture​

Think of your application as a set of Lego bricks. Each brick is a component. You might have a TaskItem component, a TaskList component, and an AddTaskForm component. You then assemble these components to build your application.

You can ask your AI to help you think this way:

"I'm rebuilding my task manager app with React. Can you help me break the UI down into a component hierarchy?"

Getting Started with React​

The easiest way to start a new React project is with a tool like Vite. You can ask your AI for the specific command.

"What is the terminal command to create a new React project using Vite?"

State Management​

In React, "state" is the data that your application needs to keep track of. For our task manager, the list of tasks is our state. React provides a hook called useState to manage this.

This is a declarative way to manage your UI. When you call setTasks, React will automatically re-render the UI to reflect the changes.

CSS Frameworks​

To make our app look good quickly, we can use a CSS framework like Tailwind CSS or Bootstrap. These provide pre-built utility classes and components.

Your Turn: Build the React Task Manager​

Your goal is to rebuild the frontend of your task manager application using React.

  1. Create a new React project using Vite.
  2. Ask your AI to help you create a TaskItem component.
  3. Use the useState hook to manage the list of tasks.
  4. Build the form to add a new task.
  5. Ask your AI to help you style the application with a CSS framework like Tailwind CSS.
